Description

Riverside Metropolitan Museum presents:
Star Trek The Exhibition:
Where Science Meets Science Fiction
June 19 - February 28, 2011 (Open Daily* 12-8pm)

Star Trek®. No other science fiction brand has become so interwoven with popular culture. For over 40 years Star Trek© has entertained us with compelling stories, colorful characters and powerful allegories.

But while entertaining and delighting, from the very beginning Star Trek® also foretold the world we live in today: Humans exploring other worlds, miracles of modern medicine, and even the first cell phone - all were envisioned in Star Trek's unique brand of science fiction.

Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future opened minds and inspired young people everywhere to imagine new possibilities and to believe that even the sky is not the limit. Countless doctors, scientists, teachers and astronauts - people shaping the world today and touching each of our lives - first found their passion in the imagination of Star Trek. It has been widely recognized by fans, scientists, and social and cultural observers that Star Trek has significantly influenced and contributed to the world, indeed the universe we live in today.

Now, you have a chance to experience Star Trek as never before. Not as cinema or TV but hands-on, live, up-close and in-person. You can explore the worlds, the wisdom, the science, the stories, the cultures, characters, fashions and the fantasies of the Star Trek universe.

Come and explore the History of the Future!

Since 1966 Star Trek has inhabited the mindscape of America, capturing the essence of the pioneer spirit that gave birth to American character. That spirit of optimism and courage in the face of uncertainty and adversity drove our forefathers to seek and confront the unknown, to conquer fear, to boldly go and push the limits of the Western frontier from New England across the continent right into the surf of the Pacific Ocean. And then, as Captain James T. Kirk first intoned from the mono speakers of our newly-color televisions, that same spirit lifted us off into "Space - The Final Frontier."

Star Trek epitomizes the historic imperative human beings have always felt to imagine the future. And at each stage of history, different expectations are formed about what that future will look like. These evolving expectations tell us as much about our past and our present as about our future. That is just part of the enduring appeal of Star Trek. And just part of what makes Star Trek the Exhibition so compelling is the opportunity it presents to experience the "retro-future."

Star Trek the Exhibition is the largest collection of authentic Star Trek artifacts and information ever put on public display. A truly impressive array of exhibits featuring sets, costumes, priceless museum pieces and props from all five Star Trek television series and eleven Star Trek feature films, including the new blockbuster film currently in theaters. Together these components offer Star Trek fans and novices alike an opportunity to experience first-hand the imagination, artistry, technology and meticulous craftsmanship that have made Star Trek the most enduring science fiction franchise in history.

Star Trek the Exhibition is the ultimate experience for fans and first-timers. It is like having your own personal "holodeck" to place you inside the excitement, drama and imagination of Star Trek. Come aboard the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, sit in the Captain's chair, see the actual props and costumes used in the TV series' and films, and enjoy one-of-a-kind displays, interactive kiosks, rare photo opportunities and unique adventures. Excite your kids. Inspire your spouse. Reconnect with your own spirit of adventure. Boldly go.
