Beyond the Black Veil
The Victorians took life and death seriously – especially death! The Riverside Heritage House is proud to introduce the Victorian tradition of the Day of Mourning at “Beyond the Black Veil” for three weekends in October.
The Heritage House, built in the Victorian style, will display in all its somber glory the elements of Victorian death. A séance in the parlor, an antique crystal ball, and the magic of tarot cards are just part of the experience.
When her beloved consort Albert died, England's Queen Victoria mourned for the rest of her life. She became known for traditionally wearing black and was imbued with a sense of sorrow. Her loyal subjects followed her lead and Victorian England became a place of dark and dramatic elements.
The Heritage House will be draped in traditional mourning and the House volunteers will offer guests a glimpse of clothing, stationery, and unusual relics.
Please join us for our first Heritage House remembrance of the tradition of Mourning at “Beyond the Black Veil”
